Well life certainly has taken an unexpected turn, hasn’t it?
I think the week of 9 March 2020 will go down as one of the craziest weeks of my professional life. And perhaps others will agree. I have public relations training and have worked on crisis communications in the past, but absolutely nothing could have prepared me for what that week threw at me as the owner of Tasting Marrakech food and cultural tours. But also a travel PR consultant working with international clients.
Through it all, I have turned and continue to turn to close friends and confidantes, but also my life coach, Ray Beach from Drift and Design, for comfort and support. I credit Ray and our weekly coaching sessions for helping me to live my best life in Marrakech, Morocco. Ray and I have been working together for over a year during which time she has coached me through various exercises and techniques to help bring balance to my life. The balance wheel and creating the stop, start, and continue lists have been most helpful to me during these times.
So when I sat down to record this episode, I wanted it to be an honest conversation between Ray and I so listeners may feel that others may also be struggling too despite putting on a strong front.
I also think it’s important to note that I believe that coaching or any other one-to-one development work such as counselling, therapy or mentoring are personal decisions and may even require professional advise. So while life coaching has worked for me and some of the exercises can, as Ray says in the interview, be used even in group or organizational settings, I think each of us are unique and it’s about finding what works for us. And when the time is right.
Listen in as Ray and I chat about her approach to coaching and what I’ve found helpful during these unexpected and unknown times on MandyinMorocco.
