Mandy on Music – Oum

One of the best things about going to Essaouira are the little music shops and the friendly shopkeepers only too excited to share their favourites musicians.

And on one recent trip I was introduced to Oum.  A trilingual Moroccan singer whose sound and style range from Andalusian inspired to poppy and fun.

As the music plays through my little medina house, images of Arabian Nights race through my mind.

And daydreams of a midsummer’s night dream style garden.

I was only too delighted when I learned that she would be performing live on Friday 21 June at the Essaouira World Music Festival at 20h.  Check out the full program here: http://www.festival-gnaoua.net/en/.

Perhaps I’ll see you there ?!
