As 2013 comes to an end, I can’t help but think this has been an absolutely amazing year.  Yes, I’m one lucky gal to be blessed with the support systems I have and the life choices I have made.

The year kicked off on a positive note – with a move to a new house. A little place in the Marrakech medina just for me. (And the friends who come to visit!)

Throughout the year some new friends were made, while friendships grew stronger, and some withered away. These are the people who encourage me to push beyond my limits, who are there to support me when in need (usually by heading out for a glass of wine or a nice gin fizz), and who love to talk about our shared passions. We may not see each other, or speak, on a regular basis, but they are always on my mind.

My trip to Spain with a very dear friend, a friendship that grew stronger with each day together, was a definite highlight. Admiring the Mudejar architecture, eating and drinking, and exploring palaces, mosques turned churches, and the gorgeous countryside was perfect for a week away in February.

A professional experience that I never imagined I would have – assisting with the decor, launch and eventually planning events at a boutique guesthouse for a friend.

My love of festivals was certainly fulfilled at the Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival in June. Four days of pure music bliss, and um perhaps a few beers as well, with some absolutely fabulous friends.  I am already looking forward to the 2014 festival!  (The next festival will be held from 12 to 15 June 2014.  Start planning!)

Then after all my hard work, it was time for summer in Canada. Oh quality time with my favourite four- and six-year old and my parents.

And of course time with my best friends in Ottawa after an extremely warm welcome in Montreal by a fabulous friend and a new friend too.

Then six heavenly weeks in Turkey when things went a bit unplanned in Marrakech.  Six weeks of meeting new people. Six weeks of discovering a new culture – food, people, landscapes and music! Six weeks of taking time to reflect and plan my next step.  And exploring new interests.

And now I’m home for the holidays, having travelled through the ice storm that hit Toronto on 22 December.

And I’m preparing to lay some roots and build my own dreams in 2014.  Thank you to all who have made my year so memorable.  Those who sent email asking for tips and advise. Those who have been there to support me during times of change and transition.

Let’s plan to make 2014 the best year yet by sharing, encouraging and supporting each other.  Happy New Year!
