There’s something special about autumn in Canada.
And I was lucky enough to enjoy it for about 10 days this year. And a few of those days spent in a special area called Prince Edward County.
A peaceful little place where the colours of the leaves was spectacular.
And crisp mornings were filled with cappuccinos watching the sun rise over Lake Ontario.
With spectacular views all around.
Followed by walks on the beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
And oh my the stunning Lake on the Mountain at sunset.
(Trip tip: The restaurant here is great with a small micro-brewery on site and a patio where I’d spend an entire afternoon and most of an evening on a hot summer day, after all, I do like my patio and beers. And the small old cabins had me wishing we were staying here instead.)
And what would a vacation be without some wine? We sure did enjoy the wineries of Prince Edward County, in particular sampling the rieslings, chardonnays, and the few late-harvest blends from the region. And what a treat it was. We *may* have purchased a few, er um several, bottles of wine along the way!
One of our last stops at Huff Estates proved that we saved the best for last.
But I wouldn’t refuse a glass of the following:
White port from Karlo Estates
Riesling from Devil’s Wishbone or Stanners Vineyard (where the locals working here are extremely friendly!)
Iced Cider from the County Cider Company
Sparkling riesling from Grange of Prince Edward Vineyards and Estate Winery
With fabulous publications and guidebooks to pick up along the way, the Chamber of Commerce makes it very easy to plan a perfect little getaway.
Just a little tip – give a miss to Harwood Estates Vineyards. The unpleasant man serving us our tasting left a bad taste in our mouths, so much so that we only stayed for one sample. Thankfully the rest of the locals were extremely sweet!
Glad you had a good trip! Next time you are in the region of Essaouira, we’ll have to visit the Val d’Argan vineyard 😉
Well, now you get me interested too 😉
As a newbe Essaouiran and a wine LOVER, I deffenitely would say Yes 🙂
Isn’t Moroccan wine a pleasant surprise?
That would be fabulous. I do quite like Moroccan wines! x
So glad you had a great trip! I love Prince Edward County so much – can’t wait for our next trip. I’m happy to hear that you got to visit some of our favourite places! And now you’ve made me certain that I want to include Devil’s Wishbone on our next visit – we missed it last time. I’m so sorry Harwood wasn’t a good experience, though. We had a great host there and a lovely visit – the host totally helps create the experience, so getting a bad one really changes your perception of the winery.
Hi Mandy:
I enjoyed seeing your great pictures and reading your review of your recent visit to Prince Edward County. Sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience at Harwood Estates. On your next trip to the County, please consider giving them another try. We bring our wine tour guests there all of the time and they always go that extra distance to ensure that all of their guests are made to feel right at home when enjoying their wines.
